Inspecting and Testing

Whether you are a homeowner looking to upgrade your electrical installation or needing a certificate to sell your property, Able Electrical Solutions Ltd have a wealth of experience to test your electrics and ensure your peace of mind!

Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR)

What is an EICR?

This involves us firstly carrying out visual checks for any damage or deterioration to any wiring accessories (i.e lights and sockets) or the wiring, and assessing the consumer unit to see whether it meets current regulations.

We then begin electrical tests to check the resistance of the earthing, the wiring’s insulation and polarity, and that the RCD operates within the correct time according to safety standards. After this we would produce a detailed report, which will highlight any potential remedial works needed.

Why do I need an EICR?

An EICR should be carried out every five years for rented properties, and is recommended to be carried out every ten years for home owners. Before selling your property it should ideally be tested as buyers will want to know the condition of the electrics. Whilst commercial premises may need more frequent checks.

It is important to get your electrics tested to ensure your home is safe and give you peace of mind. At Able Electrical Solutions Ltd we are fully qualified and NAPIT accredited, to provide you with accurate and detailed reports.

How much does an EICR cost?

For an EICR we charge as follows:

  • £130+vat per consumer unit/fuse-board
  • £20+vat per circuit

For example, a 5 way consumer unit would be charged at £230+vat. On the morning of inspection, we would confirm how many circuits we would be charging for, since we can only tell this once we have looked inside the consumer unit. But as a guide, when you look at your consumer unit it would be approximately how many MCB’s/fuses there are.

Portable Appliance testing (PAT testing)

What is a PAT test?

PAT testing involves visual checks for any damage to electrical appliances, and then electrical tests are performed to check the item is earthed, the internal wiring is in good condition and there is no power leakage.

Upon completion of the PAT test, you will receive a report of:

  • An inventory listing the appliance type, name and location
  • Test results for each appliance tested
  • A list of any failed items and an explanation of why they failed
  • A pass or fail label on each appliance that states the date tested and when the next test is due.

Why do I need a PAT test?

PAT testing is a legal obligation under ‘The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974’, which requires employers to ensure the safety of electrical appliances within work premises. Electricity appliances can easily become damaged or deteriorated which can pose a serious risk, such as electric shocks.
